I have stumbled upon a few Tumblr posts in the past couple of years of people watching Utena for the first time and trying to pull the whole purity thing on it In The Name Of I Don't Fucking Know What... and my blocked users list grew bigger. It does make wonder sometimes what the response to Utena would've been if it was released now instead of the 90s, but I'm thankful it came out when it did, both for my queer childhood and my adult sanity now.
