I absolutely loved the first few seasons of TMA and I have hit an impenetrable wall with continuing. At first I thought it was because I was waiting to see how bad the ending would hurt (season five was airing as I was catching up). But it has mostly settled into a sense of 'no I really do not want this.' A lot of what you've said here really helps clarify why. Martin has a very 'nice guy' vibe for me. And I felt from what I saw on Tumblr that Martin's trauma really became more important than Jonathan's, like Jonathan was almost guilty for this horrifying transformation that was thrust upon him, and yeah. Nope do not want. I was also initially excited over having an asexual protagonist, but the emotional baggage overwhelms too much for me to really sort that out from all the other problems the narrative ended up with. Because woo boy did it end up with problems. All of which is to say I'm glad you wrote this and I'm glad I decided to catch up with my Dreamwidth reading page at such a time as to see it.
