Jupiter takes almost 2560 earth days to orbit the sun, and its moon Ganymede orbits the planet every seven days, meaning that the satellite spends 1277 earth days a year in total darkness as it hurtles through space with its thick layer of ice covering an internal ocean that contains more water than has ever existed on earth.
