I don't think I can help in your search for gaming communities, sadly! The main ways I hear about games are basically a) I see people talking about them on Dreamwidth, or b) I hear about them from one specific real-life friend of mine who is extremely into videogames and keeps up with all the announcements. In the case of Beacon Pines, I think I saw that PlayFrame had done a Let's Play of it on YouTube, and the thumbnail caught my attention enough for me to look the game up myself.
