2025 Writing Log, Part 27
- I’ve been quiet about this, but I’ve been sweating through another round of editing on An Unfound Door, an original dark fantasy novel. This week I reached the halfway point. I don’t know if this book is any good, but it was definitely written for an audience of me specifically. I’d love to see it published one day.
- I did another set of edits on the final three chapters of What Dreams May Come, a Bloodborne-themed Zelda/Ganon story. They’re not perfect, but I still have time to tinker.
- I posted the third chapter of the story on AO3 (here).
- I made my final story submissions for Miaow Zine, an upcoming digital charity zine about cats, and Enchantment, an upcoming free digital magic-themed Zelda/Link zine.
- I got started on my story for Hunter’s Mark, a digital Bloodborne zine. I haven’t actually been accepted into the zine yet, so… fingers crossed I guess. In any case, I decided to take a different approach than I initially planned to my story about Rom’s time as a scholar at Byrgenwerth. The story is now called “The Limits of Human Perception,” and it’s about the challenges of scholarship. And toxic yuri, maybe?
- I wrote a short fluff story about Barret and Cid for the Romancing Barret fan week event on Tumblr (here). It’s is called “Good Old-Fashioned Grunt Work,” and it’s on AO3 (here). I had a super fun time with this story, but I also ended up cutting something like 2/3 of the original wordcount because it was so ridiculous. Anyway it’s awesome that Advent Children said these two men are husbands.
- I finished “An Esoteric Training in the Art of Power,” a Zelda/Ganondorf smut story set in the ancient era of Tears of the Kingdom. The current draft clocks in at a respectable 6.5k words. I’ll edit this mess next week and then put it in a folder to await the release of Age of Imprisonment.
- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the 2003 light novel that inspired an anime that became one of the biggest cultural touchstones of mid-2000s otaku culture. I guess this shows my age, but I definitely remember when people used to do flash mobs of the end credits dance at anime conventions.
- I posted three of the line illustrations that I drew for a nature zine (here) made by two extremely talented friends. The pieces are on Tumblr (here), (here), and (here). I wanted to create a nineteenth-century naturalist feel to these pieces, and I really enjoyed both the study and the process.
- I also drew a quick portrait my Pomeranian, which I posted on Tumblr (here). Hopefully I am getting better at drawing animals!! I love their little paws. <3
Oh man. It’s been a week. The horrors persist, but so do I.
