rynling | Balthazar's Character Description

Balthazar is the main character of a novel I'm working on called The Demon King. It starts off as a situational comedy about fantasy villains but gradually reveals itself as a time travel adventure. Essentially, Balthazar has used forbidden time magic to send himself into a distant postapocalyptic future into order to get something he needs to go back and prevent the apocalypse. Although the "present" of the story is LOTR-style high fantasy, Balthazar is actually from fantasy New Jersey, and his real name is Ananth. He called himself "Balthazar" in the future timeline because he thought it sounded cool, but he doesn't actually know what he's doing. He's kind of a nerd to be honest.

I tried to describe Balthazar to someone the other day, and this is what I came up with.

The query letter I wrote isn't great, so I want to try to start from scratch to describe this project. It's difficult because, like Balthazar, I don't actually know what I'm doing.
