2022 Writing Log 21
- I finished Chapter 13 of The Demon King and wrote the first half of Chapter 14.
- I finished my paper “The Role of Dōjinshi in Comic Fanzine Discourse” and presented it at “Histories & Futures of Comics Communities,” the first academic symposium held in conjunction with the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. This coming week I’m going to edit it a bit and then submit it to my editor at Women Write About Comics.
- I also made a decent slideshow to accompany the talk. No one will ever see it after this weekend, but it’s worth mentioning! And also I moderated another panel on the conference program. That’s worth mentioning too!
- I posted my story for the Your Journey Awaits! Pokémon Fanzine, “The New Kid in Postwick,” on AO3 (here). The zine itself is free to download via Itchio (here). It’s a fantastic zine.
- I posted an annotated list of eight quick editing hacks on the Get Your Words Out community (here) on Dreamwidth. Some of these hacks I always use as a final check before I submit something, and some I only use when I’m stressed out and can’t trust myself to see words on the page. None of these editing strategies are complicated or high-level; they’re just basic stylistic clean-up like using ctrl+f “ly” to find all the adverbs that fly under my radar. Despite this being a short post, I’ve been working on it for the past month.
- It turns out that I wasn’t done drawing flowers. I drew some hydrangeas and posted them on Tumblr (here). The flowers are a covert bisexual pride flag btw. Okay. Now I’m done.
- Drawing hydrangeas made me miss the rainy season in Tokyo. I drew a lo-fi rainy day wizard to chill to and posted it (here).
In other news I hate driving! But I hate airplanes even more. Someone needs to (re)invent airships. Please and thank you.

ME TOO. HOW COOL IS THIS.
My new house has a tiny backyard that's paved over with concrete. As soon as I save enough money to do something about this, hydrangeas are going to be the first thing I plant! 🌿

I keep trying to grow lilacs, and not doing a great job of it.
