Phoenix Down 2025 Dear Author Letter
To my Phoenix Down Exchange partner,
Thank you so much for offering to create a story for me!
I love explorations of how characters are shaped by their environments, and I want to dive deep into fantasy worlds to get a sense of what it’s like to live there, from wholesome to horror.
I’m primarily interested in character studies and worldbuilding, and I’m much more interested in giving you an open canvas than I am in limiting the expression of your ideas.
Please feel free to include any characters you like in addition to the requested character. Minor NPCs and original characters are perfectly fine, and I’m happy with any and all relationships, romantic or otherwise. If you’d like to place a narrative emphasis on a character other than the one requested by the prompt, I would be thrilled to follow you in an unexpected direction.
I’m not looking for explicit sexual content, but I’m not against it, either. When it comes to dark fantasy and horror, I tend to prefer atmosphere over gore, but it’s all good, no matter how grim and grisly. I’m also a fan of risqué spice, wholesome fluff, and experimental writing styles.
Please know that you have my sincere gratitude for indulging my passion for obscure lore and worldbuilding. I understand that almost no one reads these sorts of stories, but they shimmer like hidden treasures to me.
I appreciate you, and I’m looking forward to reading your writing!
Please allow me to expand on my requests...
Fandom: Final Fantasy XII
Character: Basch
I’d like to follow Basch as the party explores the Nabreus Deadlands and the Necrohol of Nabudis. What is it like to navigate such a ruined place, and how has Basch come to feel about his role in the conflict that destroyed the Kingdom of Nabradia?
Fandom: Final Fantasy X
Character: Tidus
I’m interested to know what a normal day in Tidus’s life in Zanarkand looks like. Specifically, does he ever ask questions about the wider world? Does he ever notice glitches in the Matrix, so to speak? If he does, how does he convince himself to ignore the gaps and distortions?
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII Remake
Character: Wedge
One of the many things I appreciate about Wedge is that he adopted a small herd of stray cats in the Sector 7 slums. How in the world did that happen? I’d love to know more about what life is like in the slums. Like, where do people get groceries? What is Wedge feeding those cats?
Fandom: Final Fantasy VI
Character: Sabin
I’m a fan of postapocalyptic survival stories, and I think it might be interesting to know more about the year Sabin spends in the World of Ruin before he encounters Celes. What does the immediate aftermath of the disaster look like, and how has the world changed? I’m a fan of Sabin’s positive and pragmatic attitude, but please feel free to give his character more depth and darkness if you like.
Fandom: Final Fantasy VI
Character: Celes
What was it like for Celes to grow up in the Magitek Research Facility in Vector? Was she just a normal kid forced into a strange situation, or was she well-suited to the position she was groomed to occupy? How did she relate to other people? Did she ever interact with any of the Espers? Celes is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, and I love any and all interpretations of her personality.
Fandom: Final Fantasy X
Character: Worldbuilding
How are Fayth created, exactly? What does the ritual entail? Putting Anima aside, how does someone find themselves in a position where they would choose to become a Fayth? Is it always a choice, or are some people coerced into making the sacrifice? How are they treated by their community prior to the ritual? Do they receive special privileges, or are they feared? Whether you’d like to explore the horror of bodily transformation, the beauty of religious faith, or something else entirely, I’d love to hear your theories!
Fandom: Vagrant Story
Character: Worldbuilding
I’m fascinated by the extensive network of tunnels under Leá Monde. How did they develop, and how were they used by the normal citizens of the city? I understand that the city of Leá Monde is loosely based on the French town of Saint-Émilion, and I’d love to know how the world of Vagrant Story is based on real-life medieval architecture, culture, and society. If you’d like to engage in speculation, I’d also be interested to learn how the tunnels under Leá Monde came to be infested by monsters.
