This project is an original adventure zine inspired by video game styles about two characters going through the hero's journey. The two main characters, Sylvie and Juno, are siblings who have been thrown across universes and must hop from universe to universe to make it home. Each 'level' will be handled by a different writer, artist, or team. What each universe is like is up to each contributor!
I'm not certain that this project is the sort of thing that will attract a lot of attention, but it looks interesting nonetheless. Despite telling myself that I want to step away from zines for a while, I couldn't help but submit an application. This is my pitch...
Although I’ve recently stepped away from fandom to focus on original work, I love the Legend of Zelda series, and I’ve written a ton of fanfic and meta essays about the games. I’d be happy to write a Zelda-themed level about lady warriors and nonbinary badass bitches solving puzzles in an ancient dungeon and taking up the mantle of mythical heroes. I suspect a lot of contributors are going to be inspired by the Zelda series, though, so I’d like to pitch you something a bit more niche…
Earlier this year I got into Dark Souls and Elden Ring. I adore the tone, which is horror that’s so grimdark that it’s almost kind of funny. I’d like to take the extra step and go full comedy about a horrible ruined world. Sylvie and Juno will be completely out of place in this world, which will be fully apparent to all of the crumbling undead skeletons and eldritch blighted zombies. Instead of committing violent acts of aggro against the two adventurers, the enemy creatures will help them out. My story would therefore be a level that will contain elements of horror but will mostly be about appreciating non-Euclidean architecture and petting monster dogs. Also: the undead totally understand issues relating to disability and chronic pain.
