Island Updates

This has more or less died down during the past month, but in April and May there was some intense Animal Crossing discourse on Twitter. Some people really hate certain islanders, while other people have made a point of critiquing the culture of getting islanders you dislike to leave.

I don't care either way. Some of my islanders have grown on me, and I've learned to tolerate others. My main priority is building a vast maze on a far corner of the island, but I try to be nice to everyone.

Except for Rodney, a "smug hamster" who looks and acts like a total tool. I don't know what it was about Rodney, but I fucking hated him. The day he finally left the island, I actually texted multiple people I know in real life to tell them the good news.

I still have a crush on Tom Nook and Blathers, but my current favorite NPC is Flick, the bug catcher and artist who talks like a college student on LiveJournal circa 2006. He's very sweet, and he has more or less single-handedly helped me pay off my home loan. I don't know where he gets all the money he gives me for moths and spiders, but I respect and appreciate him.

Yeah. Same. Like whatever, you do you and enjoy the game and maybe don't berate people for how they play? Also I was SO GLAD when I finally got Pietro to leave. He creeped me the fuck out and I also texted a bunch of friends to be like THE NIGHTMARE CLOWN IS GONE.

And then Raymond replaced him and I'm still cackling over that irony.

FLICK!!! YES!!! He's amazing. I'm amused by his bias towards bugs when he's making models for you. Cute lil' moth? Twice the size of you. An oarfish you give to CJ? Eh, the size of your torso is close enough.

Also Redd. Omg I love this guy. Living the dream on a boat, selling possibly haunted art to people who don't bother to check if it's real or not, and giving sweet deals on genuine pieces to those who do care - or get lucky. Either way I feel like that's such a middle finger to some art museums and I'm here for it. I could read a trilogy of novels about how the hell he got in this business. Like an anti-Indiana Jones. "IT DOESN'T BELONG IN A MUSEUM!" *sells it for like five bucks for a random dude to enjoy it* and then I proceed to put it in another museum whoops
