Game Blarg

rynlingI've been editing about four posts a day on my video game blog over the course of the past few weeks, and I'm finally done. I'm sure there are still typos, because that's how I roll, but I think I managed to catch and correct the most egregious errors. I also think I managed to make good progress in the way I think and write about games.
I began this blog last July, and since then I have written 81 posts, with an average of 1,000 words per post. This means that, in the past fifteen months, I have written and edited 81,000 words about video games. Hot damn.
Although it's hosted by Wordpress, which tends to be highly indexed on search engines, the blog receives less than a dozen hits per day and only has six subscribers. This is actually convenient for me, since it means there's nothing holding me back from cannibalizing my own writing. I've got several specific projects in mind, but first I need to submit my stupid manuscript for my stupid book about comics.

Date: 2016-09-27 01:19 pm (UTC)For what it's worth, it's been my experience that Wordpress is much easier to use than Squarespace. Squarespace is extremely limited in what it will allow you to do, and even Tumblr is easier to customize. Wordpress gives you many more options concerning what you can do with text and images and layout (and HTML coding), as well as what specifically you want to pay for (although most features are totally free on Wordpress, you still have to pay if you want to register your own domain).

Date: 2016-09-30 04:49 am (UTC)Even though I have written many words over the years -- fiction, essays, and academic writing -- when I keep my words to myself, the thoughts contained in those words never quite get finished and themes across different pieces never get woven together. Even a single pass of editing tends to make my point/story/whatever more crisp and clear. So: FuckYeahBlogging!
The issue of blogging came up recently and I have been thinking about it but ... well, something I might post to my DW shortly.
Very much agreed: Wordpress is perfect for this kind of thing. :)
