Night in the Woods
Mar. 16th, 2017 09:38 amBreath of the Wild has started to stress me out (I'm still overwhelmed tbh), so I've started playing Night in the Woods instead. It's a visually gorgeous game, and the writing is fantastic.
I've also been listening to the OST. There are a lot of interesting songs there, but the one I've had on repeat is Possum Springs, which is super chill and relaxing.

Date: 2017-03-17 03:01 pm (UTC)I live for American Rust Belt Gothic, and I don't think I've ever seen it done more stylishly than it is in Night in the Woods. I grew up in the Deep South, but I get the feeling that there are a number of similarities between my experience as a teenager and the experience of people who grew up in the small towns surrounding places like Detroit and Buffalo. Something that I haven't seen a lot of people talk about much is the casual... I don't know what to call it, "civic violence" maybe... of young adults who are unemployed or facing a future of unemployment. So like, kids will get some beer or pot or pain meds or whatever and go out to an abandoned house or factory and throw rocks into windows, or they'll take turns using a baseball bat to smash in the windshields of abandoned cars in dump lots, and they do this in the same way that kids in more prosperous areas would go to a Friday night football game (or whatever it is kids do these days). Night in the Woods deals with that sort of topic head-on, and community decay in the wake of capitalism is a major theme of the game.
That's kind of a long paragraph, sorry. What I'm trying to say is that it's interesting and I think you would like it.
