Super Mario 3D World
Feb. 16th, 2015 10:57 am* All stages completed without dying.
* All goalposts nabbed.
* All stamps collected.
* All stars collected.
* Life counter maxed out.
I am in love with Bowser. So, so in love. When he was the boss of the first world with his big purple car, my mind was blown by how much fun the fight was, and I may have actually shrieked with joy when Cat Bowser appeared. I died so many times during that final boss fight, but I didn't even mind because I was enjoying myself so much. I have so much respect and admiration for what Nintendo is doing with Bowser's character.
The level design in Super Mario 3D World is amazing, and the music is beyond catchy. One of my friends, who I convinced to play a bit of the game with me, went out and bought herself a WiiU. Another of my friends, who wouldn't play but for some reason wanted to watch, has been calling me at random points during the past three weeks just to sing the World 1-1 song at me.
The difficulty curve spiked sharply during the four postgame worlds, but I think those stages were the best part of the game (besides the Bowser fights, of course). It's as if the game was like, "Son, I'm gonna take you out back, and I'm gonna butt rape you," but then I was like, "I'm actually really into that!"
I had so much fun playing this game that it feels weird not to be playing it. I completed the Crown World on Friday night, and my weekend felt strangely empty. And yet...
When I wrote "all stamps collected" in the above list, I was kind of lying. In order to get ALL THE STAMPS, the player needs to complete every one of the stages with all five of the characters, which I'm just not interested in doing at this point in my life. Maybe over the summer?
My character of choice was Peach, because obviously she is the best character. Why settle for less? When I had trouble completing a level with Peach (and these were almost always the levels with strict time limits), I used Toad. I ended up beating everything with Peach, though, and I got her stamp the end of the game.
I was thinking that playing this game would be fuel for Bowser/Peach fic, but now I'm actually really into Peach/Rosalina. I never played the Super Mario Galaxy games, but now I really want to. It's a good thing the WiiU is backwards compatible, and it's a good thing that those two games were mass-market enough to still be available at a discount on Amazon.
Next up is Bravely Default!
