You Must Be the Change You Wish to See in the World

Political activist and civil rights leader Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Shit ain't gonna get done if you don't do it yourself," so I decided to commission artwork of my three trashiest ships.

I commissioned Izunichi to draw Peach and Zelda in contemporary clothing.

I commissioned Sara Goetter to draw Bowser and Ganondorf as pokémon trainers.

I commissioned Fungii to draw Peach and Bowser directly from the fic I'm writing.

I'm not sure that any of this is going to pan out. Artist commissions are always a gamble, as is placing the most tender core of your heart into the hands of someone you don't know.

For the record, I'm ambivalent about mixing fandom with capitalism. Paying artists for their work is a good thing, but trading financial capital for fandom capital borders on fucked up. What this is really about, however, is me putting my money where my mouth is. Specifically, I'd like to find out just how much I'm willing to invest in "fandom," with "fandom" acting as a cypher for "creative agency outside of established publication channels." In other words, this might be a small step toward something bigger.

Or it could just be sheer vanity. Either way, I still get art (hopefully).
