Getting Shit Done, Part Seven
Nov. 27th, 2016 08:31 am- I took a long walk and came up with two ideas for future projects. I'd like to write about Final Fantasy X and Okinawa and Final Fantasy XII and Ikebukuro. The political allegories underlying both games are super? obvious?? in my opinion, but to my knowledge no one has written any good meta explaining them. I mean, it's been long enough since the games were released. If no one else has done this by now, I might as well.
- I answered another batch of emails. I suppose I should explain that "answering an email" entails me doing the work that the email is requesting, such as "read this thing and attach comments" or "write this thing and send it." I count this as "writing" because each email generally involves about 250 to 750 words of writing in addition to anything I include in the body of my response. Even with me being as efficient and focused as humanly possible, this still took most of the day.
- I wrote another stupid paragraph of the stupid book review.
- I cleaned up, inked, colored, and posted the next character in the series of "Mitchiri Wind Waker" drawings I've been working on. This one was Ganondorf, and the next one will be Daphnes. Both characters have designs that are unexpectedly difficult to reproduce, but I like to pretend that my lack of skill is charming.
- I wrote more Zelda meta on Tumblr because I have a fucking problem okay.
- There's an academic press that publishes popular translations, but because it's an academic press they still require peer review. They asked me to review a prospectus for a translation of one of my favorite novels to come out in the past five years, so I got started on that. Thankfully the translation is beautiful and perfect and just <3 <3 <3
- I began the ninth chapter of "On Calmer Tides." I only allowed myself ten minutes to work on it, because otherwise I would stay up all night writing garbage.
- I worked on the second chapter of "Empire." Same deal: ten minutes, garbage.
- I edited another four pages of the translation introduction and it is terrible, oh god. I am so deeply ashamed. I should probably just die and save myself the embarrassment of staying alive.
