Subclauses to Rule 34
Sep. 15th, 2017 04:19 pmThis summer I returned from Japan with a small library of Final Fantasy XV dōjinshi, all of which I chose on the basis of their cover art. Now that I've actually started to read them, however, I'm disappointed. I wasn't expecting any sort of gay Japanese Anna Karenina, but the stories and characterizations (such as they are) are obviously based on nothing more than the character description blurbs. That being said, the art is lovely, and I suppose that one can't expect to achieve that level of artistic proficiency while devoting countless hours to actually playing video games. The faces are pretty and the penises are shiny, and that's really all you need.
Meanwhile, I just read a genuinely fantastic literary analysis of My Immortal, and it turns out that the writer also posts smutfic under a different alias, an activity he funds through his Patreon. I'm inspired by his productivity, and I am a whore for kudos on AO3, so I think I'm going to apprentice myself to him. I'm going to study his fic closely, and I'm going to... not plagiarize it, exactly, but borrow heavily from it and repurpose some of the expressions he uses. The goal is to post short smutfic for popular pairings under a separate account on AO3 and see what happens.
I have to force myself to read this sort of thing (seriously, I set a timer), but here are some of the lessons I've learned thus far...

After reading this, you may be questioning the politics of writing this kind of smut, but deconstructing the imperialistic ideology of the Zelda series through fic isn't getting me a lot of kudos, and I need positive feedback to keep writing. We all do what we have to do, bros.
