Mar. 8th, 2019 12:07 pmI recently read a collection of short vignettes about the Harry Potter universe, If Binns Taught This, I Might Pay Attention in History of Magic, which was originally posted on Tumblr as a set of captions to a series of photographs. It’s very good, and I highly recommend it!
I was inspired by this concept, and I thought it might be fun to write a similar series of 400-word stories exploring the darker and more hidden corners of Zelda lore. Although I obviously have my own interpretations of the games and their characters, I’d like to write these stories for a general audience familiar with the Zelda series but not fluent in fan theories.
I just got in contact with an artist I’ve admired for years to ask about commissioning a set of illustrations to accompany the focal points of these pieces, each of which would be about an object that appears in the Zelda games, such as bombs, rupees, the Deku shield, a Poe lantern, and so on. I was super nervous about writing to her, and it took me almost two weeks before I could summon the courage to send the email, but she seems interested. Nice!
I’d like to turn this project into a zine if all goes well. The schedule I was envisioning involves posting three or four stories/illustrations a month, but we might wait until June to get started. I’m not sure where I’ll end up going with this, but it feels good to go ahead and take the first few steps.
