420 Writing Log 02
Apr. 16th, 2020 08:44 amI’m still fantasizing about food all day. Last night I feel asleep thinking about California Pizza Kitchen, and this morning I woke up after dreaming about Arby’s. I should probably say that I don’t actually eat fast food (or smoke pot, for that matter), but I sure would like to leave the house and see other people again.
This is what I did instead:
- Yesterday I mailed out all of the zines people requested on social media and ordered on Etsy. I started at 9:30am and worked until 3:30pm. I usually only get one or two Etsy orders every few days (if I get any at all), so I was unprepared to handle this volume of mail. I’m obviously nowhere near this level, but I’m starting to understand why popular artists either hire part-time assistants to help run their online stores or only sell their work at cons.
- I intended to do more clerical work after this, but I couldn’t. After working for six hours without a break, I was starting to make stupid mistakes. I hope I caught all of them.
- The day before that was devoted to my online classes. This was a normal pre-apocalypse workday for me, from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Trying to explain what I was doing during those ten hours would be exhausting, even in short bulletpoints, so I’ll offer this concise summary: I don’t want to say that the second half of this semester is an exercise in futility, because my students are doing good work, but it’s high time for this bizarre experience to be over.
- Due to my recent inability to focus or concentrate, I managed to fuck up all sorts of things while setting up this week’s sessions of my online classes. Today is going to be about backtracking in order to clean up my own stupid mess. I know I’ve complained about my garbage students, but I’m lucky to have some really amazing students who have helped me through this semester with grace and good humor. I don't have much to give right now, but I want to do what I can for the students.
- I finished Chapter 33 of Malice. I hope? It’s done for real this time?? It’s going to need more editing, though. I’m going to keep working, and I should be able to post it this weekend.
- I also finished Chapter 34. Unlike the previous chapter, which has taken more than two weeks, this one only took two sittings. It’s a good chapter, and I don’t think it will need much editing at all.
- I started experimenting with time travel in Animal Crossing, and it is amazing, holy shit. Time travel solves every problem I had with this game. Who would have thought?
- I also started experimenting with terraforming, which you unlock after you “beat” (in scare quotes) the game. This tiny world is mine to command, and I am having a fantastic time. It’s possible that I may have gone mad with power. A lot of people seem to think Tom Nook is the villain of this game, but that’s only because they haven’t met me.
- I finished watching Tiger King. I wasn’t impressed by the first three episodes, but it gets better. As much as I loathed every single person on screen at the beginning, the series becomes much easier to watch as more sympathetic narrators emerge, and I ended up developing a lot of respect for people I didn’t expect to like or understand. More on that later, perhaps.
