I keep hitting a wall with this project. I know where my psychological block comes from, but that doesn’t change anything. Still, maybe it’s good to take this a page or two per day. Even at such a slow pace, I should be done in less than a month.

I keep opening the image file of the zine cover just to look at it, because damn it’s gorgeous.

I’ve been reading more about color theory – mainly in James Gurney’s book Color and Light – and I keep running across the idea that green is a problematic color that doesn’t balance well and evokes negative emotions, and that it should therefore be used sparingly (or never) in commercial art, including book covers. I’ve started to notice that there are indeed relatively few book covers with any green on them, even when the book is about nature and the environment. I can’t help but wonder if this has something to do with the difficulty of mixing various pigments (specifically cadmium yellow) into oil paint, because golden green in a gorgeous color. At least, it’s gorgeous on the cover of this zine, and it’s a beautiful and striking contrast to the bright red of the “Zelda” logo.
