Because the bridges over the flooded Vine Street Expressway are still in use and completely accessible, a lot of people have been showing up to film themselves jumping into the floodwaters.

The city of Philadelphia has been using Reddit and Instagram to try to get people to help them reach out to everyone who's done this. They're like, "We're not mad, but you should touch base with us so we can get you a tetanus shot."

During last year's November elections, the city overwhelmingly voted for strong measures to defund the police. I know this sort of municipal social media surveillance may seem a bit creepy, but for the time being I think I'm okay with where the balance of public security rests.

I also appreciate that the city has been using the money it's budgeted away from the police to help refurbish the (absolute garbage) SEPTA public transportation system. Maybe, once weed becomes legal later this year, they'll be able to afford fixing the old trolley tunnels.

Don't get me wrong, Washington DC is objectively one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and I miss living there. Still, after all that corporate shine and polish, I actually really appreciate living in a city like Philadelphia, which is kind of a dump but much more chill.
