Bloodborne, Part Two
Feb. 19th, 2024 08:53 amAfter you die for the first time, Bloodborne dumps you in a Zone™ called the Hunter’s Dream, a central hub that takes the form of a graveyard outside a church. The Hunter’s Dream is crawling with little creatures that can only be described as aborted fetuses, and two clumps of them will give you a pistol and a sword fashioned from a bonesaw attached to an axe handle. Having thus equipped yourself, you can then warp back into the hospital where you initially woke up and axe-saw the wolf to death.
Outside the hospital is the High Victorian Gothic Revival city of Yharnam, which is very very very beautiful. The streets of Yharnam are filled with mobs of people wielding torches and pitchforks. For some reason, they’ll try to attack you while yelling (some sort of xenophobic slurs??) in Cockney English. You can murder them, which gives you blood. In turn, you can give this blood to one of the aborted fetuses in the Hunter’s Dream for proper clothing.
I haven’t figured out how to level up yet – I think you need to find and fight the first boss? – but I’ve been enjoying wandering around, appreciating the architecture, and murdering peasants. It’s all extremely aesthetically pleasing.
