Bloodborne, Part Nine
Mar. 5th, 2024 08:11 amCherry is still murdering his way across Yharnam with his duct-taped saw cleaver. Looking at the table of contents for the IGN guide this morning, I was surprised to find myself more than halfway through the game. It seems that there are only five necessary areas you need to complete, and the Cathedral Ward is the second. Curiously, as with the previous bosses, it only took me one attempt to defeat the boss of the Cathedral Ward, Vicar Amelia. What I did was: (a) douse her in oil to make her vulnerable to fire, (b) throw a Molotov cocktail to stagger her, (c) light Cherry’s saw cleaver on fire, and then (d) rush in and start hitting. She went down in three minutes.
Vicar Amelia is beautiful young clergywoman who has lost her mind and transformed into a giant werewolf in fancy dress, and I would have preferred to pet her. That’s how I feel about all the werewolves tbh. They’re all good boys. I’d rather not fight them, but I can’t deny that it’s gloriously fun to have epic werewolf battles in the naves of immaculately constructed Gothic cathedrals.
After getting the password to open a passage leading out of the city, Cherry progressed into a dark Teutonic forest filled with snakes, and also balls of snakes, and also giant balls of snakes, and also men whose heads turn into snakes. In addition to the snakes, there’s a giant boar hanging out by a lovely pond covered in fireflies, which was clearly put into the game as a special present just for me. I’m sure that this area wouldn’t be that big if you visualized it as a 2D map, but it feels very large and mysterious and beautiful.
On the other side of the forest is a haunted university, but I’m saving that for special. I’ve read that you get to fight a giant spider there, and there’s nothing I love more in this world than giant spiders.
