I've been thinking about Spy probably more than I should. It's a good spy spoof but there are these weird road bumps that take some of the fun out of it on reflection.
I assumed that the digs at McCarthy's appearance would stop when she donned the black dress (the signal of transformation to sleek spy-ish-ness), but they kept coming. I don't recall this type of running gag in Bridesmaids or Heat. It made me want to watch Heat again, actually, to see if it is as good as I remember it being or if my love of buddy cop films is clouding my memory.
I agree with your points above. And yeah, baby steps. Watching Jurassic World this weekend gave me a deeper appreciation of recent films like Mad Max: Fury Road and Spy.
