I was frustrated with Hades when I first started playing it; and, in my frustration, I wrote something to the effect of “it doesn’t matter if the game superficially represents diversity if it’s not actually accessible to a diverse range of players.” I also said something like, “the sort of people who would give feedback on the early access version of the game probably aren’t the sort of people who are interested in accommodating diversity, and I’m wary of the fact that the devs took feedback from Discord.”
So I was on Steam yesterday, reading through some of the reviews people left on the early access version of Hades, and I realized how ignorant I was to write that.
Specifically, I found reviews from about a dozen people who self-identify as “anti-sjw” and left horrible comments on the early access version of the game, essentially saying that they got kicked off the Discord for making “git gud” style criticisms of the gameplay.
I was wrong not to give Supergiant Games the benefit of the doubt. I was super wrong. My bad.
Idk, I’m really horribly wrong about things sometimes. It’s usually embarrassing, but I’m happy to have been wrong about this.
