I was frustrated with Hades when I first started playing it; and, in my frustration, I wrote something to the effect of “it doesn’t matter if the game superficially represents diversity if it’s not actually accessible to a diverse range of players.” I also said something like, “the sort of people who would give feedback on the early access version of the game probably aren’t the sort of people who are interested in accommodating diversity, and I’m wary of the fact that the devs took feedback from Discord.”

So I was on Steam yesterday, reading through some of the reviews people left on the early access version of Hades, and I realized how ignorant I was to write that.

Specifically, I found reviews from about a dozen people who self-identify as “anti-sjw” and left horrible comments on the early access version of the game, essentially saying that they got kicked off the Discord for making “git gud” style criticisms of the gameplay.

I was wrong not to give Supergiant Games the benefit of the doubt. I was super wrong. My bad.

Idk, I’m really horribly wrong about things sometimes. It’s usually embarrassing, but I’m happy to have been wrong about this.

"it's better than I thought" is always a better class of wrong than "it's worse than I thought," right?

to be fair to you, JK was so welcoming to her fans compared to most copyright holders back when HP was bigger than God that it was easy to see her as this benevolent figure. I was fooled by it too and I wasn't even all that into HP. Even though I know better I still feel like her hard lean into terfism came out of nowhere.
