This week was a good week, and it was a good week mainly because I decided not to participate in a work-related event that didn’t interest me and just honestly wasn’t worth the trouble. Here’s what I did instead.

- I worked on Chapter… 13…?? of The Demon King. I’m really going to need to go back and edit and restructure everything to fit into the new outline, but for now it’s just good to be writing again.

- I put my original horror story “The Lotus Girl” through the first round of edits. I’ve said this before, but my writing style isn’t overly ornamental, and I’m not sure it will be a good fit for the magazine I want to send it to. Still, it’s not bad. I am the target audience of this story, and I enjoy it, at least.

- I finished writing the middle third of “The New Kid in Postwick,” the story I’m submitting to the upcoming pokémon zine Your Journey Awaits.

- I made the final set of edits to “Watching from the Shadows,” the short story about Impa and Zelda from Ocarina of Time that I’m contributing to the Goddess Reborn zine. I wrote this story very quickly – almost overnight – so it’s been an ongoing challenge to clean it up and make sure it reads well. I think it’s finally in a good place, thankfully.

- I submitted a writer application for the Homemade in Hyrule zine. What I basically said was this: I have always wanted to write a Redwall story about The Minish Cap. Please let me write a Redwall Story about The Minish Cap. It will be called “The Mystery of the Golden Acorn,” and it will be very sweet and charming and have cute little puzzles and riddles. I also pitched a Modern AU story called “Hyrule’s Finest Teas and Imports” about Ganondorf being a bitchy tea store owner and Zelda and Link being his hapless employees. I’ve never written a Coffeeshop AU story before, but damn if it doesn’t actually sound like fun. Honestly I might write it anyway – and draw my own illustrations while I’m at it.

- Tangentially related, I started playing the American visual novel Coffee Talk. It’s good.

- I wrote a review of a short visual novel called Reminiscence in the Night, which you can read (here). It’s a cute game with horror elements that sneak up on you quietly.

- I finished my review of an indie comic anthology called Project Himbo, edited it, and submitted it to my editor at Women Write About Comics. It’s a good anthology with good art that makes me proud to be gay and do crime. There’s also a lot of nonbinary and genderqueer body positivity, which I always appreciate.

- I finished my third illustration for my Wiztober project. I also wrote the captions for the first three pieces. It’s nice not to feel pressured to share this on social media, and I’m really enjoying myself.

- I’m working on a third Korok to submit to the March of the Koroks project hosted by ZeldaCreators on Twitter. The first two were warm-ups, and I’m putting a lot more care and attention into this one. It’s slow going, but I hope to have it finished by the end of the month.

I’ve gotten a welcome boost of energy from the daylight becoming longer. Best wishes to anyone reading this for sunnier days, warmer weather, and spring coming early this year.
