2022 Writing Log 09

- I’ve been writing The Demon King. Or rather, I’m working on rewriting. I now have five polished chapters. Nice.
- I went ahead and did another Demon King comic panel. I posted the rough draft on Dreamwidth (here) and the finished version on Tumblr (here). At some point I decided that elf ears are silly, but I’m going to keep the sharp teeth because it’s fun to draw.
- I started my fifth Wiztober illustration like a month ago, and I finally went back and finished it. I don’t know when I’m going to get around to posting it, but (here) it is if you’re curious.
- Now that I know how to draw murder forests, I’m working on some Legend of Zelda fan art. (This) is what the rough draft looks like.
- Because I’ve been tied up with moving, I haven’t had any new art to post, so I went ahead and posted my first two Wiztober illustrations (here) and (here). I’m trying to figure out how to draw eyes in a way that isn’t Disney but also isn’t anime. I think I’m okay with the Studio Ghibli eyes in the first illustration, but the Sailor Moon style eyes in the second illustration just don’t look good to me anymore.
- I finished an original short horror story called “The Flower Ritual.” It’s surprisingly decent!
- I submitted a writer application to a horror movie fanzine. I hope they like Japanese horror movies from the 1990s, because I sure do.
- One of my acquaintances on Twitter is organizing an academic symposium in conjunction with the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, so I submitted an abstract along with a nice cover letter. I have thoughts and feelings about “the Zinecourse,” and I figure that maybe it would be worthwhile to organize them into a formal essay.
- Some good news! My review of the indie comics anthology Comrade Himbo was published on the Women Write About Comics website (here). TLDR: This book slaps.
I took a break from Elden Ring to finally finish Furi, and it made me feel like a boss. Unfortunately, this does not change the fact that I’m still stuck in Box Hell. I guess I live here now.
