- I finished all of my grading for this semester. It’s over. Finally. Thank god.

- I submitted a translation + translator’s introduction to an academic journal back in May 2020. It was finally accepted, and I sent the manuscript back with the suggested edits.

- I just got notice that a short story I submitted back in January was accepted to the fifth issue of Optopia, a small solarpunk magazine. I was 99% sure that the story wasn’t a good fit for them, but they said they really liked my artist’s statement. That’s cool, because I really like everything they do.

- Speaking of botanical horror, I finished editing my original story “The Greenhouse.”

- I wrote a script for a four-panel Legend of Zelda horror comic called “Hylia’s Chosen,” which I described (here), and I sent a message to Frankiesbugs about a collaboration. When I think about eldritch ancient deities, I think immediately of Frankiesbugs, whose black-and-white comic art is soft and expressive yet still manages to be exquisitely creepy.

- I was accepted to the academic symposium being held in conjunction with the Toronto Comic Arts Fest, and I’ve been working on my essay and slideshow. My presentation is only supposed to be fifteen minutes, so I might have to cut quite a bit of it, but I’m trying not to worry too much during the first draft.

- I finished annotating my list of reading recommendations for popular-audience books about Japan. I’ll post it when the artist I commissioned sends me the banner illustration.

- I’m still working on editing Chapter 10 of The Demon King. It’s not bad, but it’s taking forever because I still can’t sit still for more than half an hour at a time.

- I commissioned Lunie_junk on Twitter to draw Ananth and Ceres from The Demon King, and I posted her illustration (here) along with a short essay on how I’m editing what was supposed to be a serialized story into a novel.

- I’m still not feeling inspired to create artwork of my own, but I finished another wizard drawing and posted it on Tumblr (here).

The most significant thing that happened this week was that I went to New York for a few days and then almost died on the Jersey Turnpike on the way home. I was amused by the fact that Google Maps felt the need to send me an alert saying that traffic was stopped. I was like, “Yes! I know! That’s me!!” That was wild, and it’s good to be alive.
