2023 Writing Log, Part Six

- I wrote the third and fourth chapters of the nanotech novel. I’m having to do a lot of research for the setting and premise, but the romance is writing itself. I’m doing my best to set a tone of “this is a novel for and about adults” without it being explicitly erotic, and I think I’m doing okay so far.
- I reread and made a few edits to the Breath of the Wild Modern AU fanfic novel I finished back in 2021, Malice. It’s weird to say this about my own work, but I really enjoyed reading this story, and the illustrations are excellent. Good job team!
- I edited my story for the Hyrule Apocrypha zine and submitted it to the second check-in. The structure of the story is solid, so it was fun to be able to focus on line-by-line edits while polishing the language.
- Speaking of Legend of Zelda zines! The Eyes of Hyrule, a fanzine about the Sheikah, is now open for preorders via Bigcartel (here). There’s a lot of talent in this zine, and the mods have been totally on the ball about managing the project and keeping everything organized. They say they’re planning on being able to ship everything this summer, and I have a lot of confidence that they’ll be able make schedule. It’s always such a pleasure to be part of a project where everything clicks and comes together so well. Also, I might be biased, but I think the stories (and comics!) in this zine are especially interesting and unique.
- I finished my four-panel autobio comic about romance novels set in Scotland and posted it on Tumblr (here). The “this is an aspect of Scotland I had not considered” line is an allusion to a conversation about dragons in the graphic novel Lucky Penny, which just got a gorgeous full-color re-release that made me very happy.
Also, we got a new Tears of the Kingdom trailer. I’m not too terribly excited about it, but it did cause Twitter to briefly stop functioning, so I’ll count that as a win.
