I wonder too. I know that "kids these days can't read" is something that professors have complained about since the dawn of time, but it really wasn't like this even five years ago.
...but I'd take it with a grain of salt. The author seems like a rich asshole, and there's a lot of confirmation bias at play. Still, I'm inclined to believe the people he's interviewed when they say that this isn't a problem with any given individual.
