2024 Writing Log, Part Nineteen
May. 25th, 2024 03:16 pm- I did a lot of editing work on Chapter 17 and Chapter 18 of An Unfound Door.
- After a monthlong hiatus, I returned to Lay the Gods to Rest, a Zelda/Ganondorf fanfic story set during the industrial revolution that occurs a few generations after Tears of the Kingdom. In the first ten chapters, the characters were thirteen or fourteen years old. The last four chapters are going to be about the characters as adults. I’m currently working on a transition chapter, but it’s slow going. I think I may have let the story sit for too long, and I’ve lost the thread.
- But I’m doing my best! One paragraph at a time.
- I wrote, edited, and formatted a review of the indie Game Boy narrative adventure game Neko Can Dream for Sidequest. Hopefully it will go live early next month!
- I wrote a substantial post (of about 2k words) collecting advice on commissioning artists for the
gywo writing community here on Dreamwidth. With any luck, this will go live early next month too.
- I’ve been working on an essay about a Japanese graphic novel called Cocoon for the Women Write About Comics website. Hopefully I can finish this weekend and submit the manuscript on Monday morning.
- I’m still chipping away at my big botanical illustration. A current progress shot is (here). I really need to finish this monster this week, because…
- The laptop that I got in 2017 (it’s an HP Spectre) is still beautiful and clean and shiny and sleek, and it still runs like a dream. However! It can only handle one big Photoshop project at a time. I’ve been gradually commissioning illustrations for my Philadelphia folklore zine, and I think I finally have everything ready to go. Once the botanical illustration is squared away and the file is transferred to an external hard drive, I can start formatting the zine.
- Speaking of zines, I applied to a Princess Zelda zine called Silent Princess, practically on the same hour the application went live. I’ve been putting together an application since the project was announced, and I actually submitted two separate applications – one as a fic writer, and one as a meta writer. I have really good portfolios (and pitches) for both, I think, and I’ve worked with most of the mods before. Still, I know there’s going to be a lot of interest in this zine, and this is a long shot. Fingers crossed, I guess.
Big news this week! I got a new dog!! Her name is Eevee like the pokémon, but we’re spelling it “Evie” so we can pretend it’s short for Evelyn. Pics or it didn’t happen? Okay!!!
