2024 Writing Log, Part 25
Jul. 7th, 2024 07:34 am- I’m continuing to chip away at Chapter 19 of An Unfound Door. I’ve gotten the introductory “get the characters from Point A to Point B” bits out of the way, and I think I’m half done. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish the chapter this coming week.
- I wrote Chapter 13 of my Tears of the Kingdom fanfic Lay the Gods to Rest. This is the core scene I had in my mind when I decided to write this story, so the writing went quickly. Always a pleasure when that happens. I’ll give the chapter a week to sit before I post it on AO3.
- I finished and edited my essay about Ender Lilies, and I submitted the manuscript to Sidequest. Huzzah!
- I finished editing and formatting my Strange Things Happen in Philadelphia short fiction zine, and I sent the files to the printer. Huzzah!!
- I converted the zine to a web-friendly digital version and shared it on Itch.io, where you can download it for free (here). Huzzah!!!
- Somehow, miraculously, I was invited to be a guest writer for the Whispers of Hyrule zine. This was an amazing surprise and a huge honor. I’m very proud of my guest spotlight graphic, which is on Tumblr (here).
- An artist I’ve admired for years, Lucifeena, opened commissions, and I jumped at the chance to work with her. My Halloween Zelda fic this year is going to be about Princess Hilda from A Link Between Worlds, and so I requested a portrait of Hilda being angsty and gorgeous. The illustration is on Instagram (here), and it’s everything I could have hoped for.
- I finally got around to drawing the new Zelda from Echoes of Wisdom. I tried to use a 1990s anime style, but I couldn’t bring myself to do cel shading. It’s outside of the social media hype window and also nothing special, but I really like this piece. It’s exactly the sort of anime illustration I loved as a kid. I posted it on Tumblr (here).
This week I’ve been playing Elden Ring, housetraining the puppy, aggressively limiting my engagement with discussions of American politics, and enjoying the summer weather. I hope everyone reading this is staying cool and keeping chill. 🍃
