2024 Writing Log, Part 27
Jul. 21st, 2024 06:50 am- I got back to work on Chapter 20 of An Unfound Door. This is the last chapter in the “Bad Guys Close In” section of the story, and I think it’s probably okay if it’s short. Although it’s a quiet transition, this is the definite turning point from “maybe everything will be okay” to “let’s make horrible life decisions.”
- I got started on Chapter 14 of my Tears of the Kingdom fanfic, Lay the Gods to Rest. I’d originally planned for the story to have fifteen chapters, but I think this is going to be the last one. Now that I’ve written the scene I really wanted to write, it feels like it’s time to move on.
- I wrote a 450-word story about Tetra from The Wind Waker and Zelda from Spirit Tracks as a response to a prompt on Tumblr, and I posted it (here). I made myself cry a little while I was writing this, not gonna lie.
- I posted my writer preview for Residents of the Wild on Tumblr (here). Residents of the Wild is a digital charity fanzine focusing on the NPCs of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and all proceeds are going to this year’s Zeldathon event in August. Preorders are open (here). I’ve said this before, but the writing in this zine is especially good, and there’s a special hidden theme in the art (it’s koroks lol).
- My new Strange Things Happen in Philadelphia short fiction zine is back from the printer, and it’s beautiful. It only cost an extra $25 to print the zine in full color, so I didn’t see any reason not to. I did a tidy little photoshoot on the sidewalk outside my townhouse to get the photos for the Etsy listing, which is (here). A slightly different version of the zine that I optimized to be more accessible in a digital format is available for free on Itchio (here), if you’re interested.
Maybe it’s the tense political climate, and maybe it's the photos and stories of bombings, and maybe it’s the heat, and maybe it’s the shock of feeling the timeline split, but it’s been a tough week. Hopefully I’m not showing it, but I’m doing pretty bad actually. Here’s hoping for better news and kinder days ahead.
ETA: Oh thank goodness. Thank goodness. What a relief.
