- I’m still working on the final chapter of An Unfound Door. I currently have 4/5 sections complete.

- I edited the first three chapters of An Unfound Door. Surprisingly, they’re not bad.

- If I can continue to edit roughly 7,500 words a week, I should be able to finish in eight weeks. This means I should have a solid draft of the novel by Monday, November 18.

- I’ve also been editing the lore meta documents I’ve created for this novel. While I’m at it, I should also probably edit and update the blog posts I made about the chapter summaries. The first one is (here).

- I’m continuing work on an academic essay called “The Affective Economics of Indie Comics Publishing.” I wrote two paragraphs and two footnotes this week, bringing the wordcount up to 2,500. Nice!

- I finished the last two listings for an article on horror comics for the website How to Love Comics. These were listings for Loving, Ohio and Not Drunk Enough. This project was a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to seeing what other titles are featured. The article will go live on October 15, and I’ll link to it then.

- My mini-review of Hyeon Cho’s graphic novel Your Letter is included in September round-up of comics recommendations over on Women Write About Comics (here). This is a sweet and gentle Korean webcomic about friendship and finding the courage to stand up to bullies that’s just been released in a gorgeous full-color English translation.

- This week’s post on my book review blog is a full-length review of a single-author manga anthology called Shitsugai Kishitsu. It will probably never be published in English, unfortunately, but it’s probably the best manga I’ve read this year. My review is (here) if you’re interested.

- I also posted a mini-review (here) of Saou Ichikawa’s prizewinning novella Hunchback, a powerful and honest account of living with disability that’s scheduled to be published in English translation next March.

- Earlier this summer, I had a silly idea (explained here) that there should be forest Gorons with moss and mushrooms growing on their shells. I asked Ellenent, who offers commissions in the best Wind Waker woodblock print style I’ve seen, to create a design. I think she did a wonderful job! The illustration is (here) on Tumblr, and it’s adorable.

Not much to report this week. I had a small (and hopefully invisible) breakdown when I read about a deeply disturbing bit of world news, so I’ve been trying to stay offline. In the meantime, I’ve been enjoying the nice fall weather while taking the puppy on long walks.

Also, I finally got around to watching The Boy and the Heron. It’s not a perfect movie by any means, but it refilled at least half of my mental health meter. I’m grateful that Hayao Miyazaki is still out in the world living his best life and making gorgeously weird movies.
