- I edited the final two chapters of An Unfound Door. I now have a complete polished draft of the novel that weighs in at 63,000 words. That was fun. Now the real work begins, I guess.

- I posted an illustrated essay about Chapter 14 on my blog (here). This post includes some meta about narrative structure, as well as art by the brilliant and shining Dragon Age artist Anta ARF.

- I finished the first draft of a formal query letter. I then sent it to a few people for critique. This was horrible and I hated it, but it had to be done.

- I posted “The Smile of the Mountain Demon,” my short story from the 13 Days horror anthology zine, on AO3 (here). I had a ridiculous amount of fun writing this story, which is a play on medieval Japanese folklore. The complete zine is available to download for free from Itchio (here) if you’re interested.

- I posted a promo for the story on Tumblr (here) that features some lowkey creepy but still very lovely art from the brilliant dark fantasy artist Maxyvert. This artist takes commissions (here), by the way, and it was an amazing experience to work with them. Super highly recommended.

- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about Makiko Futaki’s lushly illustrated children’s book Tree in the Middle of the World. Futaki was an artist and animator at Studio Ghibli, and she was inspired to create this story while doing visual research for My Neighbor Totoro. It’s a truly beautiful book.

- I wrote mini-reviews of the graphic novels Ditching Saskia and The Gulf for this month’s comics recommendation post on Women Write About Comics. I’m generally not into stories about moody teenagers, but both of these books offer something special, I think. Ditching Saskia is gentle murder mystery in which the protagonist is haunted by the victim’s ghost, while The Gulf absolutely destroys the myth of wilderness self-sufficiency while still being very kind to its characters. In any case, I’ll link to the post when it’s live.

- I finished formatting my “Trees in Video Games” minicomic and pitched it to Sidequest – and they accepted it! Huzzah!! I also wrote simple image captions and a short footnote linking to my artistic inspirations.

- I posted a simple illustration of a teacup filled with chamomile flowers on Tumblr (here). This drawing went through several color palette variations (I’m fond of this one), but I think the final version turned out nicely.

Between one thing and another, it’s been a week. Every day I fanaticize about disappearing into a forest.

You are putting one foot in front of the other so consistently, and that's hard, and it's awesome that you're doing it.
