- I edited my query materials for An Unfound Door, and I now have a polished query letter that doesn’t make me want to kill myself. Some agents ask you to submit a form with separate text fields instead of a letter, so I also have a polished stand-alone author bio, pitches of varying lengths, and short stand-alone character profiles. And then, because some agents ask you to send these materials along with the initial query, I have a strong 1k-word story summary + the first three chapters.

- For the purpose of keeping track of everything while I query agents, I also made. A fucking spreadsheet.

- I posted a short essay about Chapter 16 of An Unfound Door on my blog (here). This week’s chapter preview illustration is last week’s handsome commission from Armd39.

- I finally posted “Come Find Me,” a short piece of Tears of the Kingdom fanfic in which Ganondorf appears to Link as Phantom Zelda and attempts to convince him to stop collecting Koroks and show up at Hyrule Castle already. It’s on AO3 (here) if you’re interested, and it features a marvelous illustration (this one here) by Madvalart.

- I commissioned the lovely Charby to create an illustration of Link in the Southern Swamp from Majora’s Mask, and they posted it on Tumblr (here). This is a gorgeously atmospheric piece of art, and it now lives on my phone’s lockscreen to help me ward off winter seasonal depression. Charby is super friendly, has immaculate taste, and works extremely quickly. I definitely recommend working with them, and their commission info is (here) if you’re interested.

- For the December comics recommendation post on Women Write About Comics, I wrote a short review of Beneath the Trees Where No One Sees, a grisly murder mystery about two dueling serial killers in a small town. I know that the “cute animals doing murder” premise of this book may seem a little too precious, but it’s actually just as fun and cathartic as you’d hope it would be.

- The November comics recommendations post is now live on WWAC (here). All of these books are excellent btw. What can I say, we have good taste.

- This week’s post on my Japanese fiction review blog (here) is about Kaori Fujino’s Nails and Eyes, a small book that collects a novella and two short stories that fit loosely into the genre of literary psychological horror. The stories are quiet but disturbing, and there’s a lot going on under the surface. I imagine Nails and Eyes would make an excellent selection for a book club for sickos. (It’s me, I am that book club.)

- Just as I set out to do this week, I drew fan art of the amazing Ray Cat concept and posted it on Tumblr (here).

- In order to work up to this, I sketched a pukeko bird (here) and a South American bush dog (here). I’m afraid I don’t have any special talent for drawing animals, but I really enjoy it. And that’s what counts!

I used the Thanksgiving break to get caught up on work, and I also took some lovely walks with the dogs while thinking about my next writing project. If you’d like a boost of writing motivation for yourself…
