I was replying to a comment on a Final Fantasy VII story when it occurred to me that I would love to live in Nibelheim. I'm given to understand that it was a tough place for Tifa to grow up, but it would be perfect for me as an adult. It's got everything: big beautiful houses, a small but supportive community, lots of nature, and even a genuine haunted house with a cursed basement library.
What I didn't put in the comment (as this would be wildly inappropriate) is that there are also lots of handsome monster boyfriends to romance in the abandoned reactor out in the mountains. I understand that the revelation of what Shinra/Hojo is doing to the men in the pods connected to the Jenova core is supposed to be horrifying, but listen. Would.
I've been toying with the idea of writing one of these Reader/Character stories that's so popular these days, but I tend to be a fan of difficult and unpleasant characters who aren't going to fit into this sort of narrative. BUT WHAT IF, hear me out, I wrote a story about one of the Nibelheim mutants surviving and being cared for by one of the Shinra employees paid to live in the reconstructed version of the town?
Those employees have probably seen some shit, and a monster crawling down from the mountains and begging for help probably wouldn't raise any eyebrows. Like I mean it's somebody's job to keep the zombies living in the Shinra Mansion basement fed, you know what I'm saying?
Anyway I just think the monster and the reader should kiss.
