2025 Writing Log, Part Nineteen

- I returned to “What Dreams May Come,” my Zelda x Bloodborne crossover. I reduced the outline to ten chapters, and I finally finished Chapter 5 after a three-month hiatus. It’s not great!
- I also edited Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. They’re not great either! But that’s okay. This is yet another story with a target audience of no one but myself, and I’m having a lovely time.
- I cleaned up my Zelda x Green Knight story to the best of my ability and submitted it to the big bang event moderators. This isn’t the best thing I’ve written; but also, it’s not the worst. The most important thing is that it’s finally finished and out of my hands.
- While riding the high I got on the “Zelda in the woods” vibes of the story, I drew a picture of Saria from Ocarina of Time half-hidden by tree leaves. It’s on Tumblr (here).
- I’m still obsessed with the 1990s strategy guide vibes of Vermis, and I’ve been experimenting with ways to achieve the same gritty image quality. I used this month’s Linktober art prompt, “Relic,” as an excuse to create a drawing of the Dominion Rod from Twilight Princess in the style of an old print. It’s on Tumblr (here) if you’d like to check it out.
- I finished the first 3/5 of my piece for Miaow Zine, a murder mystery story titled “Angus and Peaches Get Away with Murder.” I’m having a wonderful time. This is an original story, but I’m considering the possibility of creating an alternate version for AO3 to make it gay Sherlock Holmes fanfic.
- I wrote reviews of two graphic novels this week: The Harrowing Game and Low Orbit. They’re both fantastic books, and I’ll link to the reviews when they’re posted.
- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about a small artbook called Memento Bento that’s published by the micropress of an Italian illustrator I admire, Mezzolume. Once again I am back on my bullshit about the charm and appeal of being old and unoptimized.
What I spent most of my time doing this week was preparing a paper to present at a conference in Slovenia. On Monday I’m going to fly to Amsterdam (because it’s cheap), rent a car (because it’s cheap), and drive to Ljubljana (see previous). While I’m driving through the woods, I sure hope that no vampires, witches, or werewolves emerge from the trees to ravish me.
