2025 Writing Log, Part 36
Sep. 13th, 2025 07:32 am- I got started on Chapter 20 of The Demon King, an original fantasy novel. Finally the story has gotten to the fireworks factory! What a joy to be here.
- I edited Chapters 16 through 19 of The Demon King. I can tell that this is when I really wanted to write An Unfound Door. I’m glad I put down this novel to actually write that one, because the tone and pace of these chapters were markedly different. I fixed it, but it took a lot of work!
- In any case, the parts of The Demon King that have been fully written and edited now total about 50k words. I have four more to chapters to write, which should put me in the safe wordcount range for this to be an actual “novel” that I can maybe query one day. Huzzah!
- I’m still editing The Legend of the Princess, a Zelda/Ganon fanfic novel I wrote back in 2018/19. Some of it is very cringe!! but I’m doing my best to polish the writing. I’m impressed by how far I’ve come. Still... this week I was only able to edit two chapters. Again, it’s a lot of work.
- I started writing my annual Legend of Zelda short story for Halloween. It’s called “Silence,” and it’s about Ravio watching Hilda commit atrocities prior to the beginning of A Link Between Worlds.
- I put together the text of this year’s listicle of my favorite free-to-play retro horror games on Itch.io and submitted it to my editor at Sidequest. This coming week I’ll make the graphics.
- I only sent one agent query for An Unfound Door this week. I know it’s stupid, but this really takes a lot of out me, and I’m doing my best to manage my exhaustion this semester. And in the end, one query is better than zero!
- I drew a quick and style-accurate picture of Hornet and the Bell Beast (my beloved) from Silksong, and I posted it on Tumblr (here).
- I’m still taking my sweet time with Silksong, but one of my favorite things about the game so far is that Hornet gains the ability to float like Princess Peach. I did a close study of a screenshot I took from a YouTube video and drew a style-accurate character sprite, which I posted on Tumblr (here). Listen I just really love Hornet okay.
The ongoing horrors of the Trump administration continue, and they’re not getting any easier to process intellectually or emotionally. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, we’ve had a stretch of blissfully perfect fall weather. Which is not nothing. 🍂

Date: 2025-09-17 07:18 pm (UTC)I recently lost a few followers on Tumblr by agreeing with someone who essentially said that it's not worth anyone's time to get upset about a video game that hasn't actually been released yet. People were like, "But don't you care about imperialism and genocide?" And it's like yes, of course I do. That's why I'm not wasting my time contributing to the social media hype surrounding a stupid action game for children.
And it's amazing how liberating that can be.
