- I wrote the fifth chapter of The Archives of Hyrule, a post-TotK modern AU. In this chapter, which is a quiet bridge between more active scenes, I explain a bit of Zelda’s work history and the practical details of what her job entails. This chapter is based partially on my own experience and partially on the experiences of a few friends, and it’s the cocktail party version of a job description. I think it’s relatively entertaining, and hopefully the sort of reader attracted to a story with “archives” in the title will think so as well.

- I’m making a bunch of shit up, though. In my defense, magic isn’t real.

- This was a long chapter, but remember: chapters don’t have to be long! Don’t burn out!!

- I wrote a short horror-romance smut story about Zelda using Ganondorf to get pregnant on the night before his execution in the timeline leading to Twilight Princess. This is partially based on my theory that Ganondorf allowed himself to be captured once he realized that his “execution” would involve the Sages sending him to the Silent Realm. Ganondorf is exactly where he wants to be; so, oddly enough for the scenario, both parties have full agency and enthusiastic consent. Good for them. I still need a title, though.

- I finished my Yuletide story! I’ll need to do at least two more rounds of edits, but I think the story has good bones.

- I started work on an illustration for the story. I guess it’s not really an “illustration,” per se, but I really want to draw the main character looking cool.

- I got started on my “Year of the Horse” drawing for New Year’s. Did you know horses are difficult to draw? I know I’m not the first person to make this observation, but goddamn.

- I started translating a short novel by Yoko Ogawa titled “The Day We Buried Brahman,” with the “Brahman” of the title being the name of a small forest creature of indeterminate species (a fox? a raccoon? a tanuki?) that becomes the companion of a lonely old man who works as the caretaker for an artists’ retreat in the woods. I’d like to write an academic paper about the book, and maybe publish a zine with my translation of the first two chapters.

- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about Mushishi, a ten-volume manga about a traveling xenobotanist studying mysterious creatures in rural Japan in the late nineteenth century. Kodansha is releasing the manga in a new set of “Collector’s Editions,” and they’re beautiful. Mushishi is a unique and slightly eerie manga that probably isn’t for everyone, but it’s a fantastic work of art. I’m very happy it’s back in print.

It's been a tough semester, but I managed to make it through. I’m looking forward to having a few weeks to do fuck-all while I take the space I need to tackle a few deadlines and then think about what I’m doing and where I’d like to go in the future.

I'm working on it! I'm with my mom (in Delaware) and we're just basically flopping around the house. It's great.
