2026 Writing Log, Part Nineteen

rynling- I posted Chapter 10 of my Tears of the Kingdom Modern AU story The Archives of Hyrule on AO3 (here). In this chapter, Zelda thinks about throwing Ganon and his weird obsession with magical artifacts to the curb so she can get on with her life, but instead she makes the Extremely Bad Decision to indulge her curiosity and wade even deeper into the mystery of the archives. And thus concludes Act One. Huzzah!!
- I posted a promo of the story on Tumblr (here) along with a marvelous illustration of Ganon by Chrisfroot, an expert at drawing beautiful but dangerous female characters who (therefore) did an amazing job imagining what Ganon would look like in a Modern AU setting.
- Inspired by (this) miraculous piece of art by Somesleepyfreak on Tumblr, I wrote a thousand-word light comedy called Pride & Prejudice & Ganondorf, which I posted on AO3 (here). This was so much fun to write, you have no idea.
- I have an essay appearing in a book called That One Matt Bors Comic, an anthology about internet meme culture that has a constellation of incredible names attached. I’m not sure why I’m included tbh, but I’m not complaining. The book is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter (here), and it managed to pick up more than $35k in less than a week. Fingers crossed that everything goes well.
- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about Asako Otani’s Hollow Inside, a literary novella about the mundane challenges of being a Millennial adult and the surprising lightness of the realization that your life isn’t going to follow a “normal” path marked by the expected set of milestones. Though some people might find this book depressing, it felt like a breath of fresh air to me.
I spent the past week driving through Germany and visiting friends. I walked around medieval cities and went hiking in the Black Forest during the day, and then at night I played Tears of the Kingdom. I won’t lie, it was magical. I feel like I’ve finally returned to full HP. Yesterday I flew back to the States, and now I suppose it’s time to get to work on my summer writing.
