Yuri!!! on Ice

"I don't really care about figure skating," I said to myself before proceeding to watch more anime in one sitting than I have since college.

I never watch sports anime, but Yuri on Ice is really good. Seven minutes in and I was gone.

I saw some gifsets of this a couple of days ago! It seems interesting.

I've got a lot of other stuff I've been meaning to watch, though, so we'll see.

I had other things higher on my "to watch" list too, but I was wrong. There are six things I love about this show:

(1) The animation and cinematography are astounding.

(2) The colors are gorgeous. Off the ice, everything is warm and sometimes a little abstract, but on the ice everything is cool and precise. It's a really beautiful anime to look at.

(3) The show doesn't have a lot of yelling, and its conflicts tend to be understated. There's a lot of forward momentum, but the story is very "kind," for want of a better word.

(4) The focus is on the three male leads, but there are a number of awesome female characters in supporting roles.

(5) The fandom is lovely and filled with wonderful people.

(6) The show is only eight episodes in right now, so it's easy to catch up on.

If nothing else, the opening song is perfect and pure. Just watch it, and I promise it will make you happy.
