The Modern History of Zelda
Dec. 14th, 2016 08:53 amThis is dibeediboop's finished illustration of The Modern History of Zelda, which she posted along with the character designs on her Tumblr.

It's incredible, right?
There's actually a bit of history behind this.
I started trying to commission people to illustrate this fic back in March. I began by contacting people in the Zelda fandom, but nothing worked out, unfortunately.
I therefore began moving outside the fandom. Between May and September I had about half a dozen conversations with artists in other fandoms (primarily Dragon Age) that eventually petered out. I actually ended up paying two of these people significant amounts of money before they disappeared on me. This was disappointing, but what can you do.
In October I got serious about this project, and late in the month I was lucky enough to touch base with dibeediboop, who accepted the commission. This was a stroke of good fortune, since she was super professional and an absolute joy to work with. I exchanged more than 5,000 words with her in an effort to try to get everything as close to my vision as I could while still appreciating and accepting her artistic choices, which was not hard, because she is brilliant. I consider this illustration to be the product of a real collaboration, and I'm proud of the work we did together.
