Idris Elba is probably the only person who could get me to watch the Dark Tower, and he's definitely the only person who could get me to watch another James Bond movie.

This is true, Idris Elba can make anything look good.

I remember back in 2015 when Beasts of No Nation came out, and everyone was like, Why are so many people so strangely impressed by this horrific movie about child soldiers? I was like, Oh hey, this is just like that time two years ago, when everyone was strangely obsessed with the Nelson Mandela biopic Long Walk to Freedom.

One of the (many) things I could never get behind in The Dark Tower books was how Roland was supposed to be a diplomat but was, at the same time, really fucking serious and scary 24/7. I always passed that dissonance off as the character being an idealized masculinist power fantasy, but if they've got Idris Elba playing Roland I guess I can sort of see a potential for him being slightly less weird and boring.

I mean, fingers crossed, fingers crossed.
