Thor: Ragnarok

I went into Thor: Ragnarok thinking that it couldn't possibly be as good as everyone has been saying it is, and it wasn't. It was better.
Tessa Thompson gets a sword!
Idris Elba gets a sword!
Chris Hemsworth gets two swords!
Cate Blanchett gets ALL THE SWORDS!!
I still don't understand why everyone loves Tom Hiddleston so much, but he gets some swords too.
I chuckled when I recognized Matt Damon. He's got a very good cameo.
I literally laughed out loud when Jeff Goldblum came onscreen. Jeff Goldblum is perfect.
I may have wet myself a little when I realized that Taika Waititi himself is voicing one of the characters. Taika Waititi is better than perfect.
I have seen some good movies in 2017, but this was definitely the best of the lot.

I think he has that Benedict Cumberbatch thing going for him where he's not actually conventionally good-looking but can be absolutely beautiful from the right angle... but Cumberbatch tends to play glorified male genius douchebags who piss me off too much to properly enjoy how gorgeous he is, whereas Hiddleston as Loki is just so much *fun*.

Date: 2017-11-24 04:00 pm (UTC)As much as I love him, Chris Hemsworth's Thor is a huge dumb alpha male douchebag from start to finish, and I actually ended up sympathizing with clever beta male Loki much more this time around. Tom Hiddleston isn't really my type (his forehead is... enormous.....) but he really shines in that role.
I wasn't a huge fan of the Dr. Strange movie, but I actually liked Benedict Cumberbatch in this one. If I were a wizard I would totally live in a huge house filled with books that is actually multiple huge houses filled with books, and I would use teleportation all the time. Like, now I'm in DC, but I can snap my fingers and be in Tokyo, sweet, let's go to Aoyama and eat a huge parfait, and then I would snap my fingers again to lose the calories and not gain any weight ever. Honestly if I had magic I would abuse the shit out it and not think twice, which is why I appreciated every single one of the movie's five minutes of Benedict Cumberbatch even despite his obnoxious attitude and atrocious American accent.
