The Road to Mobliz

I finally finished a fic about the journey Celes and Sabin undertake from Tzen to Mobliz. I've been envisioning this story for years, ever since I took a graduate seminar on the travel journals of the haiku poet Matsuo Bashō. Bashō is all like, "The world is impermanent and life is suffering, yay Buddhism," but he's actually being wined and dined by a series of wealthy patrons and doing quite well for himself.

After reading Narrow Road to the Deep North for the umpteenth time, I thought it would be cool to write a travel diary describing a world that truly was horrific. And thus the idea for this fic was born! I also wrote a bunch of haiku to accompany the prose, but I ended up cutting them and posting them elsewhere (which ended up becoming its own project).

Anyway, this wasn't my intention when I first started out, but I now ship Sabin and Celes. I don't imagine that this story will ever get more than five or six dozen hits; but, if there's enough demand for a sequel, then I will totally write one, and those two are totally going to have some sexytimes.

I enjoyed this one. I liked Sabin's voice and the details about Figaro (and Celes mentioning Figaro was of special interest, not realizing what this would mean to Sabin). I tried to remember the last time I read an epistolary. It's been a while.

Locke is... yeah. Celes/Sabin I can get behind.
