I do want to say, just for the record, that I love my job.

My colleagues are good people, and it's nice to be paid a comfortable salary to read and write.

I don't particularly care the for the administrative aspects of teaching, but I have a lot of fun in class. This semester, for instance, I'm teaching an actual college course that counts for actual college credit about The Wind Waker, and it is fucking magical.

I could do without the panic attacks, but anxiety is what it is, and we're all doing the best we can.

I just want to give you a hug. Your awesome, I'm proud of everything you are doing and keep doing. I want to punch the bullshit side of academia in the face. And your anxiety. Well, everyone's anxiety. Fuck anxiety they said, while having just had a panic attack after receiving praise from their boss and boss' boss

But seriously, so much respect and love for you. My sister originally pursued academia and then noped out of it before she got in too deep. I remember her horror stories from over a decade ago and that was with economics. It pains me to know how much hasn't changed, but it also makes me smile to know you're being a badass teacher to those awesome students. Man, I wish you were my professor back in the day!

You know, occasionally I will meet someone who has left academia, and I will cling to them like a drowning person clinging to a raft. "HOW DID YOU DO IT," I scream with tears running down my face. "TEACH ME YOUR SECRETS."

Unfortunately, these people always respond poorly. I think another reason that academia is probably a cult is that any mention of it triggers extremely unpleasant emotions, even in people who have long left it behind them.

One day I will be able to leave myself.... one day.

I will be real with you, it's mainly a class full of art school students, so it's mainly an excuse for me to get free fan art.

"For bonus points on this quiz," I will write, "draw me a picture of Ganondorf your favorite character."

"Wow," the students tell each other. "This class is so much fun!"

Meanwhile I rest my chin on my crossed fingers like Gendo Ikari and watch as the twisted branches of my devious plan finally begin to bear fruit.
