Majora's Mask 3DS, Part One
Jun. 19th, 2015 08:10 amIt's been a few years since I last played this game. I remembered that it can be a bit moody, but I had forgotten just how melancholy it actually is.
The Song of Healing especially hits me right in the gut.
There's a scene late in the game in which you use the song to heal a little girl's zombified dad, whom she's been keeping locked in a cage in their tiny house so he won't devour her. When he recovers, he has no idea what happened, and so he asks her what he's been doing. She tells him that he hasn't been doing anything, and that he was just having a bad dream.
This is all well and good until you realize that, when you reset the three-day cycle to continue on with the game, this girl's father is going to go right back to being a zombie, and the two of them will be stuck in a lonely little shack in Ikana Valley and trapped in this bizarre relationship for the rest of their lives.
And that's the Song of Healing.
ANYWAY this game is a lot of fun to play despite the fact that it can sometimes be depressing as all fuck. I'm still trudging dutifully through Skyward Sword, so the intuitive controls and interactive open world of Majora's Mask are extremely satisfying. I regret that this game is so short, because I feel like I could play it forever.
