2024 Writing Log, Part Fifteen
Apr. 20th, 2024 10:55 am- I finished writing Chapter 16 of An Unfound Door, an original gothic fantasy novel. I also put Chapter 12 through another set of edits. I really enjoyed working on both of these chapters.
- Inspired by these chapters, and I drew some mushrooms sprouting from a stack of old rotten books and posted it on Tumblr (here). I’m still embarrassed by the limitations of my artistic ability, but I think this turned out okay.
- I got started on my short story for the 13 Days of Halloween zine. This story is a contemporary retelling of the Adachigahara legend about a cannibalistic yamauba mountain demon, and this week I set the stage for the carnage.
- I wrote the second and third (out of five) sections of “Everyday Heroines,” a story about the Gerudo archaeologist Rotana for the Residents of the Wild fanzine.
- I commissioned Hylias_Disgrace (on Instagram here) to create a cover illustration for “An Elegy of Earth and Sky,” a short story about Hylia and Demise from Skyward Sword. The artist kindly allowed me to post their beautiful illustration on Tumblr (here).
It’s the end of the semester, and the world is going crazy. I’m doing my best to be kind and stay sane, but I can feel myself slipping. I’ve been plagued by a sense of futility and impending depression, but really, what can you do.
