rynlingSometimes I wonder why my students don't (can't?) read and have no ability to process abstract concepts, and then I remember that they're systematically exhausted and denied the necessary time and energy to cultivate critical thinking.

This is something that requires a lot of unpacking, but for now I just want to save the link to this chain of Tumblr posts and allow myself to say out loud that I'm fairly certain that most of my students are functionally illiterate. I know this sounds elitist and ablelist, but it's a real problem - and I don't think it's the fault of the students themselves, who work harder every single year.
