rynlingLydia is a 30-minute horror game for Steam and Nintendo Switch about a child's experience of her mother's alcoholism and emotional abuse.
Playing it is like walking through a Stephen Gammell drawing, and it's really powerful.
I'm happy I played Lydia, but I will probably never play it again. I will also probably never write about it at length, because it hit a little too close to home.
I don't talk to either of my parents, and I've had people tell me that this is unhealthy. I wish I could tell those people to play this game, because it does a fantastic job of explaining why not talking to your parents can sometimes be one of the healthiest things you can do as an adult.
Lydia is $2, and it's extremely well-made. It doesn't pull any punches, and I wasn't expecting it to have the courage to go to the places it did. If you think it's going to trigger you, though, you should probably trust your instincts.
